Reporting to the Senior Director, Principal and Major Gifts, the Associate Director of Development will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts. The Associate Director will be responsible for fundraising with individuals for gifts of $100,000+. They will serve as a member of the principal and major gifts team and will work with the Senior Director to develop an annual Major/Principal Gifts operating plan for school fundraising priorities; lead the cultivation and solicitation for individual prospects, and close $1M+ in gifts annually. The Associate Director will work flexibly in support of the HMS Dean's priorities, including therapeutics, global health, financial aid, diversity, and the Blavatnik Institute's fundamental and translational biomedical research enterprise. They will build and manage a portfolio of 50-75 prospects that have a capacity to give $100,000+ with a primary focus on the West Coast. They will conduct outreach to alumni and other potential major gift prospects and assume responsibility for special projects as assigned. The Associate Director will prepare proposals and documents related to fundraising opportunities and work with an experienced advancement team to identify prospects, execute timely and comprehensive stewardship strategies, develop and manage related events. They will contribute to the annual strategic planning process and meet quarterly and annual visit and fundraising goals while working with selected faculty members and volunteer leaders to accomplish goals. They will recommend new strategies to enhance fundraising; prepare progress reports on principal/major gifts fundraising activities; and provide gift tracking data to the Senior Director, Principal and Major Gifts. The Associate Director will represent HMS at events, meetings, and off-site presentations and will engage in travel to meet with prospects and donors. Finally, the Associate Director will work effectively within a culture inclusive of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals.
