Full-time lab-based research assistant wanted to join Dr. Norbert Perrimon's group in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. This position will be part of the Drosophila RNAi Screening Center (DRSC) and Transgenic RNAi Project (TRiP) which supports high-throughput studies in Drosophila cells and in vivo. The primary focus of this position will be to help generate and characterize transgenic fly models of human diseases. The ideal candidate would be able to both contribute to our existing molecular biology and in vivo workflows and help design, scale up, optimize, and/or automate additional workflows based on newly developed technologies, as part of our fast-paced and collegial technology team.
Principle Responsibilities:
Basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, Gibson and gateway cloning methods, gel electrophoresis) to generate and analyze plasmid DNA for the purpose of generating new genetic tools. Input reagent and quality analysis information into laboratory information management system (LIMS); Maintenance Drosophila stocks and genetic crosses; Maintain precise records of work; Efficient and thorough communication.
This is a one-year term position from date of hire with possibility of extension, contingent on work performance and continued funding to support the position.

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline. Minimum of 1 year of wet lab experience (higher education may count toward experience).
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field strongly preferred. Prior experience with basics of molecular biology such as PCR, gel electrophoresis and bacterial transformations as well as cell culture and Drosophila genetics. Ability to interpret and implement protocols and applying previous experiences to new situations. Minimum of 1 to 2 years of wet lab experience.
