Senior Planner for Sciences

Job-Specific Responsibilities
Lead facility planning for basic science departments at the medical school. Involves comprehensive space planning and program development by working collaboratively and daily with faculty, researchers, and department leadership as well as school leadership, external consultants, and other members of Campus Planning and Facilities staff to establish goals, objectives, and plan for the highest and best use of intended facilities that align with school’s mission. Responsible for pre-project planning including developing, validating, and documenting scopes of work, preliminary layouts, schedules, and conceptual budgets in accordance with school policies and standards for administrative approval. Provides programming evaluations for key design metrics, layout, space allocation, adjacencies, space cost, user experience, and recommendations on space development alternatives.
Mediates solutions for space issues. Effectively transition projects to project management staff. Conducts and administers complex feasibility, planning, and analysis studies for the short and long-term development of the school science departments for existing use and campus growth. The planner will contribute to the development, implementation, and management of campus space and design standards and plans for the continuous improvement of the school’s physical resources and operations. Represents Planning, Design, and Construction interests as required. Leads committee(s) as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Planning, or relevant field
- 10 years of experience in related area.
- Project management
- Proficient in basic science research programming, lab planning, or design highly
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit, Microsoft Office.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- License, certification or master’s degree
- Works well in and/or leads a highly collaborative
- Builds working relationships.
