Church Hill Academy (CHA) is the East End’s own fully-accredited, private, Christian high school. CHA is part of Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), a nonprofit organization that serves youth through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment activities, and community partnerships. From its inception, CHA has sought to propel CHAT’s mission and values in an academic setting for 9th-12th grade students and to prepare them for success after high school. We seek to empower students to become leaders and culture-makers. Our school’s mission statement: Church Hill Academy equips high school students to achieve academic success, develop character, and serve their community.
Assistant Principal is a director-level position that is part of the Church Hill Academy team. The incumbent serves as primary backup to the Principal and will lead non-instructional school functions. The Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and supervises transportation and kitchen staff.
Essential Duties
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of others and performs related human resources functions
- Oversees CHA student transportation: supervising bus drivers, developing schedules, and ensuring safe and timely pickup and delivery of students
- Ensures a school nutrition program that is compliant with related rules and procedures.
- Assists with facilitation of CHA’s Planning Team/School Administration, which also functions as:
- Accreditation Team (five year re-accreditation process with Virginia Association of Independent Schools planned for Fall, 2024)
- Admissions Team
- Crisis Management Team
- Special Event Planning Team
- Assists the Principal with the school’s financial management and accounting
- Approves the use of funds for non-instructional school functions and operations, ensuring agreement with approved budget thresholds
- Sets the philosophy of student discipline, behavior, and restorative practices
- Engaging active student discipline problems
- Overseeing communication and documentation of discipline issues
- Leading a small staff cohort around conflict resolution and restorative justice
- Coordinates the scheduling and orientation of Substitute Teachers
- Coordinates the scheduling, setting, and preparation of campus-wide events
- Works with teaching staff to accommodate requests for instructional technology or related unique classroom set-ups
- Collaborates with CHAT’s After School Program on shared space and building operations
- Serves as the school’s point of contact for CHAT’s Director of Operations, performing related duties
- Collaborates with school staff to plan and execute field trips.

- $60,000 to $70,000, negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience

- Primary work location: Church Hill Academy at Carlisle Ave. Baptist Church 2010 Carlisle Ave., Richmond, VA 23231
- School Year: August 17, 2022 - June 20, 2023
- Work Schedule: 7:15am - 3:15pm, Monday-Friday, plus weekly staff meetings until 4:15 on Tuesdays, and some after school seasonal events (i.e., athletic events and school programs)

Qualifications: Any combination of stated education, experience, knowledge, skills abilities, and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform essential duties is acceptable.
Required Qualifications
- Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles’ Creed and lived out in a faith community
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Experience working in a secondary education or high school setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and command of the English language
- Strong project management skills with flexibility to manage multiple projects, adapt to change, and deliver on time

- Graduate study in education, counseling, business or public administration
