Position Description
The Department for Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at Harvard Medical School, a chartered department as of July 1, 2015, is looking for a Cloud Security Project Manager to work with our multidisciplinary team of data scientists, medical doctors, genetic counselors, and software engineers to continuously improve the security of our cloud operations. The Cloud Security Project Manager, under the direction of the Technology Development Core Director at DBMI, will be integral in developing a sustainable, secure, cost-effective cloud security project management operation for DBMI and will serve as a liaison to the Harvard Medical School Information Security department.
The ideal candidate has a passion for security. They have broad cross discipline security domain knowledge and practical experience of implementing security in cloud-based systems. They're a solid program manager with great organization and prioritization skills. They can identify requirements from complex security issues into easy understood concepts, capture the underlying security risks and communicate these effectively. They will be crucial to orchestrating the simultaneous planning and operation of a collection of projects focused on cloud security and compliance documentation.
Proposed job responsibilities:
- Manage data security implementation plans and compliance across DBMI, including negotiation, participant enrollment and engagement, and understanding how security and compliance concepts should be applied based on project requirements and timeline. Work with project management, engineering and application development teams to ensure that security is planned and coordinated with any necessary security controls.
- Review vulnerability reports and plan implementation strategies with key stakeholders to address security risks. Configure, maintain and operate compliance and vulnerability management tools. Stratify vulnerabilities into risk levels and help prioritize solutions across project teams. Implement solutions when possible. Provide technical support to project teams and work to improve system security vulnerability monitoring and other intrusion detection systems.
- Generate high quality security control reports to communicate findings clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical business unit managers.
- Explore and evaluate new technologies and solutions to push our capabilities forward to solve new challenges and prepare for future growth. Maintains technical expertise relevant to industry standards and in cloud computing.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of seven years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems Management, Risk Management, Information Security or related field
- 5+ years prior experience in data or information security programs
- 2+ years practical experience of implementing data security, information security and cloud security controls
- Strong written & verbal communication and presentation skills
- Experience in working with the NIST 800 Special Publication series guidance for risk management and security control implementation
- Experience achieving and maintaining compliance with existing security frameworks is a plus
- Experience operating within an AWS or other cloud provider environment Basic proficiency in Python, or another programming language
- Experience with medical informatics or protecting healthcare data
Additional Information
This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
