Provides executive leadership directing a large broad-based multi-sectioned office responsible for general and special education transportation services and bus driver training; develops, manages, supervises, evaluates, and modifies all activities, programs, projects, personnel, and physical and fiscal resources of the office; provides support to the chief operating officer with decision-making responsibilities for operational functions within the department; is responsible and accountable for strategic planning and outcomes.

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master's degree in transportation management, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
• Eight (8) years of progressively more responsible experience in planning, coordinating, and/or managing large bus or related vehicle fleet operations, some of which shall have been in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
• Must have completed or shall complete within one (1) year of employment to the position, the "New Director/Supervisor" class conducted by the VDOE [8VAC20-70-350].
• Must have completed or shall complete within the first 90 days of employment to the position, the DOT mandated Drug and Alcohol Suspicion Training for Supervisors [49 CRF 382.603].
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and current trends related to transportation services.
• Knowledge of fleet management, EV school buses and charging station infrastructure.
• Knowledge of applicable local, county, and state regulations, laws, and policies.
• Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
• Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to successfully carry out the function and programs of the office.
• Ability to identify and integrate advanced technologies into daily operations to achieve improved efficiencies.
• Ability to supervise, evaluate, and lead.
• Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
• Ability to conduct complex administrative studies.
• Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with personnel assigned to schools, other departments, public entities, and citizens.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
